As part of our sustainability strategy, at BTSA we actively contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals:
2. ZERO HUNGER
At BTSA, as a food company dedicated to the manufacture of natural antioxidants and natural vitamin E, we develop products that extend the shelf life of food and maintain its nutritional properties for longer, allowing food to reach all corners of the world in the best conditions for its consumption.
In addition, our antioxidants play a fundamental role in reducing food waste, allowing the products to be consumed for a longer period of time.
3. GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
At BTSA we manufacture natural Vitamin E and natural antioxidants, and we deliver these products to food, personal care or animal nutrition companies in different parts of the planet, allowing people to consume enriched products in better preservation conditions, which has a positive effect on the health and well-being of consumers.
On the other hand, at BTSA we manufacture Omega 3 fatty acids, from flaxseed, fish or algae origin, favoring the consumption of essential nutrients for good nutrition of people, which have a multitude of health benefits.
Internally, we care about the health and well-being of our workers, and therefore we offer them medical insurance and periodic medical reviews.
In addition, since 2019 BTSA provides a physiotherapy service to our employees, which has had a very positive impact on their physical health, both for those who carry out office jobs and those who carry out more physical and heavy jobs in the production departments.
4. QUALITY EDUCATION
Our Human Resources department has developed and established training and integration plans for employees to promote their professional development. At BTSA we offer complementary specialized training to our collaborators through courses and masters, or through the attendance to seminars and/or industry events.
In addition, at BTSA we offer English classes to our employees who wish to improve their knowledge and skills in this language.
Finally, through our collaboration with Adeslas Foundation , we work for the development of education in the most disadvantaged areas of Barcelona or Madrid, or even in other cities outside of Spain, such as Nador in Morocco.

5. GENDER EQUALITY
Since 2018, in BTSA we have implemented an equality plan in order to promote gender equality in our organization.
From our origins, at BTSA we have been a company committed to gender equality and to the development and empowerment of women in the workplace. Thanks to this effort, the positions of greatest responsibility within the company have been held both by men and by women.
In addition, our remuneration policy is based on the characteristics and functions of each job and on meritocracy, which is why we have always favored gender equality in terms of the salary of our workers.

12. RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Products manufactured by BTSA contribute to sustainable consumption. Our antioxidants extend the shelf life of food or personal care products, and minimize spoilage due to poor practices during transportation or storage. In this way, waste from spoiled food is reduced.
On the other hand, our main raw materials, used in the manufacture of our natural antioxidants and natural Vitamin E, are the by-products of the distillation processes of vegetable oil refineries for human consumption. At BTSA we revalue these by-products and give them a new life by transforming them into additives or nutrients, which are then used by food, personal care or animal nutrition companies.
Likewise, the by-products that we generate at BTSA are later reused for the manufacture of biodiesel. That is why at BTSA we do not generate direct waste from our activity. Indirect generation is mainly due to the packaging used, although we have implemented policies to reduce this type of waste and have managed to reduce the amount of waste produced in the 2018-2019 period by nearly 50%.
15. LIFE ON LAND
BTSA, due to its proximity as a company to the agriculture of vegetables such as soybeans or sunflower, has direct contact with the agro-industrial industry, transferring the acquired social values to its suppliers and maintaining certifications such as RSPO.
In addition, we have the NO-GMO IP certification, which guarantees that we only acquire raw materials of plant origin that have not been genetically modified, respecting the biodiversity of the different species on our planet.
In addition, at BTSA we also help meet the rest of the objectives, through the following actions:
1. NO POVERTY
At BTSA we participate in business and sector associations, such as AFCA or AEDHE, which work to promote the creation of economic and social prosperity, as well as the development of new markets that will drive future demand.
In addition, since 2018 we have collaborated closely with the Adelias Foundation , which is dedicated to working for children and adolescents in two fundamental areas for sustainable development: Education and Health.
For more information about the Adelias Foundation , please visit: https://www.fundacionadelias.org/
On the other hand, at BTSA we regularly evaluate and audit each and every one of our suppliers, to ensure that all their workers have decent working conditions, also ensuring the well-being and economic growth of them and their families.
6. CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
At BTSA we try to ensure that all workers are aware of and committed to the proper use and reduction of drinking water consumption in our facilities. For this we promote the responsible use of this valuable resource throughout our facility.
7. AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
At BTSA we only use electrical energy, which comes from 100% renewable sources, thus contributing to the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change. In addition, in our facilities in Madrid we have installed solar panels for heating sanitary water in order to reduce the electricity consumption of the company.
On the other hand, at BTSA all our renting vehicles are hybrids or electric, so by using these less polluting technologies we are reducing consumption and gas emissions, and therefore, contributing to clean and ecological transport.
Finally, we prioritize train travel nationwide for our entire sales team, both for visits to clients and for participation in seminars, fairs or other events in the sector, and we only rent cars for transport within a specific town or province.
8. DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
From our human resources department we promote agreements with local universities to give job opportunities to students and to carry out curricular internships. In this way, young people are provided with a first experience that opens the doors to a decent job.
9. INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Since our origins, at BTSA we have always been at the forefront of new trends in natural antioxidants, which is why we allocate an important part of our resources in research and development to create more natural and healthy products.
In 2018, we made a large investment to expand our production facilities, making major changes to have a more efficient and modern factory.
In addition, at BTSA we participate in R&D projects for the development of new ingredients and formulations, as well as new advanced packaging systems and materials. Between 2015 and 2019 we have been part of the CIEN AVANZA-S project, an initiative of the National Business Research Consortium (CIEN) of the Center for Industrial Technological Development, which finances large industrial research and experimental development projects.
10. REDUCED INEQUALITIES
At BTSA we have developed and implemented a code of ethics under our management system that seeks to avoid discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, national or social origin, sexual orientation, age, language, disability, political opinion, labor association, among others.
BTSA’s human team is made up of people of multiple nationalities, beliefs or socio-economic origin, and in our company they all live together in an environment of friendship, respect and equal opportunities.
11. SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES
In 2010, we moved our offices and production facilities to Tecnoalcalá, the science and technology park of the University of Alcalá de Henares, in an environment surrounded by nature and with an integrated design that does not cause a great visual impact. Likewise, we maintain garden areas and green areas to integrate our facilities into the environment that surrounds us.
13. CLIMATE ACTION
Our facilities have solar panels for the production of sanitary hot water, thus contributing to the reduction of energy consumption from non-renewable sources. By using only electricity from 100% renewable sources, at BTSA we have significantly reduced our carbon footprint, thus contributing to sustainable development.
During 2020 we have invested in new distillation equipment to manufacture our products, which are more energy efficient.
14. LIFE BELOW WATER
At BTSA we collaborate with organizations such as IFFO or GOED, which are marine ingredient associations that promote research and synergies between companies, as well as a responsible use of marine resources.
16. PEACE, JUSTICE AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS
BTSA’s human team has a multinational and multicultural character, thus promoting the integration of all kinds of people and religions, and coexistence in a safe, calm and mutually respectful workspace.
17. PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS
At BTSA we belong to different business associations, such as AFCA, CESFAC, AEDHE, which in turn allocate a significant part of their resources to promoting the values of sustainability and development, and which carry out their own programs to fulfill the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
